First Look at Alien

I have been making progress on Pesky Invaders again. I am currently coloring the old man character for the first scene. There will be a production update on that very soon. I have snapped some pictures as well as screen grabs and am in the process of creating a big juicy post. So stay tuned for that!  Until then I decided to leave you with a first look at a rough sketches of the alien character. The alien has evolved a little since this drawing was created but on the whole is the same.
enjoy

Pesky Invaders project re-opened! - July 17th 2006

Time to let the production Journal become a production journal again!  With that said production re-opens on "Pesky Invaders". It has been a far too long hiatus on this project. None the less an important one that had to happen. I had to upgrade to a new computer. The old one just was not handling the level of animation I was creating. The sad part of it being the fact I was not creating high end CG animation. I was doing flash. Albeit heavy flash. Lots of details and gradients.  While I am watching "k" size I am being more lenient than on previous flash animations.  Now I have finally got the new monster(dell xps) up and running. Since I just reopened this project obviously I have nothing new to show. So I will use this post to recap what has been completed on "Pesky Invaders" thus far.

Here are series of sketches of the old man. I knew very early on how I wanted him to look as he was based off my Grandpa. While the over all look is the same in the sketches there are slight details I was trying to work out. Like in the chin. In some they are round others have a slight corner. Same with the top of the head. Some are more round than the others. The top middle is the one I am leaning most towards the moment.

This is a rough layout of the cabin. The trees and the bushes are not finalized and will be moved around some to fit the shots needed. This was just an early comp to get the feel. The forest as you can see is monochromatic in the blues. In the photo the cabin is brown amongst a blue background. The actual distance shot will have it silhouetted in a suitable blue to fit in the color scheme. Then on the close up shots will be closer to the color you see in the photo.

Spoiler alert! If you don't want to see any of the animation until it's finished...don't watch the clip. With that said here is a quick clip of the opening shot sans movie title verbage.

I know things have been a little more on the quiet side when it comes to posting lately. That will all change, but not just yet. I am creating/redesigning some things soon for the website. once this is done there should be more frequent updates and things to see. I am about half way through that project.  I have finally got my new computer! I will now begin the tedious mind numbing project of installing all the programs I need. Not to mention transferring files from the old computer. Then I will be able to resume work once again on Pesky Invaders. It has been far too long of a break. So please bare with me on the slow posts, but more updates and sketches will be coming soon. For now I will leave you with a  rough animation test I did on my Wacom tablet in Flash.  If I may...I will now quote the wise men of Coca-cola and simply say...."Enjoy"

Ok so it has been a bit of time since the last post. This is just a small update. Still in the process of getting a new computer. I think I have got it narrowed down to what I am going to get.  Just doing the leg work now. The office redesign is all but complete minus a few small things to build like drawers. Then we can start moving things back in. How about them Oscars. No 3d film won in either category of short or feature. We had a stop motion and hand drawn. A sign to come? Word on the street is with John Lassetter taking over creative at Disney they are gearing up to do 2d again. Time will tell.

It seems these days that the latest trend is to make a movie creating hype around sports that are not in the main stream. This is Dream Out Louds attempt to show the world the action and thrills of the sport "staring"!

Just writing to say I am still alive. Life has been busy! Still not any further on getting a new computer. I have got the specs of what I want and need, but that's about it. Still working on the office redesign. I will try and paint the walls the first week of the new year. Then the new carpet will be installed. We can then order the desk units and cabinets needed. I hope to have the new computer ready and going by the time the office is done. I have been working on a Coffee ad for practice that I will show soon. Just need to put the finishing touches on it. That is about it for updates

This is just a doodle of a space man I had lying around already uploaded.

So my computer is back up and running. Better than it ever had before. However it still is out dated and works too slow for what I need it to do. So I am still in the process of getting a new machine. I will still work on some preproduction stuff for Pesky Invaders but as far as actual animation goes it will have to wait.  While a little frustrated I am going to use the time to do some character designs. So It should be a fun break.  Also going to use the time to rebuild and redesign the office with better desks, cabinets, etc. So I probably would not get a lot done in that time anyway.

Happy Halloween!

HP pavilion computer -1999 - 2005
Well it happened pretty quick.  It gave me one warning. I was working on a project when the computer was acting up. So I rebooted it. Instead of coming back up it stayed in dos. After several reboots with no luck I left it alone to sit and think about what it had done.  Half hour later it worked fine.  Fast forward to one week later when I was adding a DVD rom to it.... WAM! ... and I am not talking about the music group. It again would not get out of dos. This time it never recovered.  I am extremely lucky to have a Father in law who knows computers inside and out.  I find out the C: drive had failed.  More than likely irretrievable. I did save everything I had that was important onto the D: drive.  So I did not loose any of my animation and art...phew.  However all my programs are gone.  I can always reinstall most them, but its a pain.  While my Father in law is working to get this computer working again I have begun work to look for a new one.
queue The Six Million Dollar Man theme song - Gentlemen, we can build a new one . We have the technology. We have the capability to build the world's first bionic computer.  Better than it was before. Better, stronger, faster.
I am going to custom build this time. This one is going to be a monster. It will be able to eat my old one for a snack. Right now I am set up to pretty much do 2d animation only. I love doing 2d, but will be great to start getting into the realm of 3d. Oh, and you can stop the theme song now if you have not already. Unless you like it then by all means continue.

Moosiple

This is a Moosiple. This was a rough creature concept design.
